At the end of an epic match, the scoreboard shines bright with the 12-7 score – the Lions took home the victory, as per usual.
On Tuesday, March 3, boys varsity lacrosse won against Innovation High School. But, the game didn’t start with a clear road to victory.
“We were down zero in the first quarter of the game, we had to bring ourselves together in the second quarter of the game as a team [to win],” sophomore Anthony Lunardi said.
The team did eventually pull themselves together, the score reflected it, but it took a little motivation.
“Your coach can’t motivate you, no one can motivate you: you have to have the motivation within you,” Lunardi said.
The boys were coming off a close 13-10 win against Seminole just a day before their battle against Innovation. They were ready to win again, but maybe not so soon.
“We were coming off a big game Monday against Seminole, but we were pretty beat up and tired, so we wanted to, you know, just get in there, handle business and get out,” junior Anthony Masso said.
Even though they were tired, they still made it a great game.
“A really electric moment was when Blake scored, ‘cause he’s a defender and [it’s] always cool when defenders score,” Masso said.
In any sport, teamwork is essential. What’s also essential is a sense of respect and appreciation for your peers and teammates that you’re working with. This is a necessity that the boys lacrosse team doesn’t lack. They all appreciate each other’s work and recognize when they have a good season or even a good game.
“Our goalie had a great game and I feel like just seeing him succeed was really nice,” sophomore Joshua Boyd said.
But it’s not all serious.
“It’s a love hate relationship, half the time, it’s respect and half the time it’s just messing around,” Boyd said.
Having a supportive team definitely aided in their success Tuesday, as well as their physical ability and training.
“You’re getting hit, you’re probably falling over, you’re probably in pain, so you need good teammates to rely on,” said Lunardi.
