On April 13, boys varsity baseball ended their spring season with an intense playoff game against East River High School. The game resulted in a 0-2 loss. The Lions ended this year similarly to last season, in which they lost to Pace High School in the playoffs.
“I feel like that loss is especially worse because it was such a close game,” junior and right handed pitcher, Logan Pollard, said.
Regardless of the end result, the players came into the stadium with a hunger for victory.
“Coming into the playoffs as defending champions with momentum and positivity, I was sure we were going to win that game,” junior outfielder, Christian Lynch, said.
That being said, these players did have their worries, stressors and fears before the game.
“Playing on the road at their home field was a tough challenge to face,” Lynch said.
Along with this, there were concerns about the skill of the opposing team’s members.
“They had a very good pitcher who was able to pitch very well,” said Pollard.
In the end, the only thing on these athlete’s minds is to continue that fire for next spring. The young potential on the team and potential transfers show a large amount of promise, and the possibility to go all the way next year.
“I am very optimistic about Oviedo next year … I believe that the younger players will step up,” Lynch said.
This sentiment is shared among fans and spectators of the team.
“[Losing is] a minor setback for what’s to come, our team next year will be much more developed,” Damin Marquis, junior and long time fan of the Lions, said.
Despite the devastating loss, the hope and promise for the 2027 season are keeping everyone’s sights to the future.
“Things didn’t go our way that time, and sometimes, there’s nothing you can do about it other than keep your head high and move forward,” Lynch said.
