Girls lacrosse kicked off their 2026 season with a stupendous start, winning eight out of nine games. On Feb. 9, their first game ended with a score of 6-5 against Vero Beach High School. The team earned a big jump of points after winning their second game on Feb. 12 against Lake Brantley with a score of 19-1. They only continue to dominate nearly every opponent they come across, putting their skills on full display this season.
This year was the girls’ team’s first time beating Vero Beach in a match in 10 years.
“Beating Vero Beach was a major accomplishment since they were in the final four last year,” junior Addison Steinebronn said. “We can see our improvement and where we stand as a team.”
The winning streak isn’t anything new: the Lions were winning this time last year as well, but they have become more intimidating over time. The progress comes from internal strength.
“I’m so excited to keep pushing and see where our dedication takes us throughout the rest of the season,” sophomore Presley Krantz, who plays midfield, said.
At their game on Mar. 2, against Lyman High School, all but one of the girls on the team scored a point, another great triumph. Although the girls have had a winning streak so far, they still have great competition coming.
“We still need to put in effort and improve to beat the harder teams, and to go to states,” sophomore Ariya Canagasaby, defense, said.
Many of the girls set personal goals for themselves for a season. Last year, Steinebronn tore her ACL, and this year, her personal goal is to make a strong comeback after having to be off-field all of last year. Krantz looks forward to growing as a player and as a person.
“I want to improve my stats from last year and be a leader on and off the field,” Krantz said.
An overall goal of the team is to make it to states and beat their main rival, Hagerty. The girls are coming together and strategizing on and off the field on the best way to make it there. “Our greatest strength is being able to communicate effectively and work together,” Krantz said.
“This year has been such a fun year, since every player on the team is very skilled and a lot of us have been playing together since elementary school! The bonds have been so sweet to watch,” Steinebronn said.
