Lots of people spend their time trying to find activities that they can enjoy and feel proud of, with one option for Oviedo students being weightlifting. Despite being a solo sport it still can bring fulfillment and joy.
Weightlifting increases your health in a numerous amount of ways, physically and mentally. It can help you gain physical strength while also improving your mental state.
“There are so many benefits of weightlifting,” Coach Evans said, “[like] learning how to deal with good and bad days along with the ups and downs that happen.”
There is much more to weightlifting than just lifting a heavy bar. It’s very mental and it can help increase your confidence and belief in yourself.
For the girls team, it can easily relieve their stress, give them mental clarity, help fight anxiety and depression and more. It’s a gratifying feeling when you achieve the goals you have set for yourself, it can instantly lift your spirits and put you in a good mood.
“When you have been stuck and finally get it, it’s like a weight is lifted off you,” senior Justice Sampson said.
A lot of personal growth can be seen while participating in this sport, you get stronger and gain self respect.
Playing in a solo sport can be difficult, the focus is on you rather than an entire team, it can be intimidating and nerve wracking. Having other girls on the team to support you from the side makes it easier to endure and enjoy.
Everybody has different goals and chases different achievements, but having teammates to push each other in the right direction makes the sport more comforting.
Weightlifting is a very impressive sport, you gain respect from your peers and coaches. That kind of validation can go a long way for the girls.
Although there are many different ways to feel good playing this sport, fulfillment is still earned and not just given to you. There is a long process to reap the rewards and it’s important to not take it for granted. Looking back and seeing how many changes you went through can give you a big sense of pride. Seeing the growth is an exhilarating feeling and can influence you into more changes and making more goals.
“I truly love weightlifting and I’m so grateful for everything it has given me over the past three years,” junior Bella Collins said.
