This story contains mild spoilers for “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.”
“Five Nights at Freddy’s” is a series of horror games beloved worldwide. The first game’s film adaptation, “Five Nights at Freddy’s,” was released on Oct. 27, 2023, a big turning point for the fan base. On Dec. 5, 2025, the sequel, “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2,” was released.
In this movie, a variety of characters from the original games made their appearance on the big screen for the first time ever. Seeing these characters who played such a big role in the games in live action was very exciting and entertaining. In both the first and second movie, every animatronic had such a realistic look to them, it was shocking to see how the creators and designers could so perfectly bring them to life.
Throughout the movie I was kept on the edge of my seat with minor plot twists. Although the movie is categorized in the horror genre, I felt that there wasn’t enough scare or gore to call it a horror movie, even with the jump scares involved.
Some of the animatronics in the adaptation don’t truly follow their original personality and goals from the games. Certain characters’ motivations were modified to better suit the plot, such as the original four animatronics (Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy) and the Marionette/Puppet. In the “Five Nights at Freddy’s” video games, each of the four original animatronics are known for their specific ways of killing and their need to get revenge on William Afton. However, in this movie they became the potential “good guys.” The Marionette is known for protecting the children and being driven to avenge her death. While this was shown strongly in the movie, they made her more violent and persistent than she originally was.
Considering that the producers had to create a plot based on a game with limited information and setting changes, they did a good job of curating a storyline to express the backgrounds of the characters. Each animatronic had their own moment even if it was just a minute or two. The producers did a great job of bringing in new characters that were not seen before and giving the fans hidden references to enjoy.
The movie ended on a cliffhanger, leaving the fans in shock and anticipation of the next release. For the fans that stayed to watch the end credit scene, you were able to see Springtrap, the reanimated William Afton who is locked inside the suit, foreshadowing his role in the third movie, another huge storyline the fandom will get to witness.
Overall, this movie was a great addition to the “Five Nights at Freddy’s” collection, and I’m excited to see how the next movie will be presented.
