Great Day in the Country is an event run by the Oviedo Woman’s Club to help bring the Oviedo community together. The 51st annual event was held on Nov. 8, 2025. Every year, there is a wide range of things you can find at this event: pop up tents you can browse, food, drinks and games. At the event there are numerous different businesses that sell a variety of different things like trinkets, clothing, suncatchers, jewelry, wood carvings, homemade crafts and more.
Events like these benefit smaller businesses because it helps increase their profit and income. When one person makes a purchase, they can spread positive feedback about the business and that leads to others taking interest and checking it out. There were multiple vendors that mentioned how great they did that day and their pride in what they had accomplished.
Lots of these owners are people who are presenting something they worked hard on, are passionate about, and love.
“It gets little businesses to be shown and puts them out there,” said sophomore Avery Andersen, a volunteer for the Oviedo Woman’s Club.
Many of the Oviedo High School (OHS) students also benefit by gaining volunteer hours. The Beta Club, National Junior Reserve Officers’ Training Corps (NJROTC), and National Honor Society all participate. The Oviedo Woman’s Club also allows students to volunteer with them and help keep things running as the day progresses.
“I like coming out and spending time with my friends. We’re just helping out and taking down tents,” said NJROTC student Matthew DeArmas. “We can help the community more and put ourselves out there so we can have an impact on the community.”
Volunteering can be more than just gaining hours; students can make it fun by participating in events such as Great Day in the Country.
OHS has multiple opportunities for students to be active outside of school while still being able to meet specific requirements.
“We do a bunch of events that help out the community and it helps us gain the points we need by the end of the semester,” said freshman Beta Club member Chloe Kim.
Great Day in the Country is beneficial to Oviedo citizens as well; many people look forward to it and see it as a way to bond with family and friends. Oviedo mayor, Megan Sladek, makes an appearance. It’s fit for all ages considering the live entertainment and games provided.
People come from all over the state to experience the fun, all while doing something socially and economically good for the city. The 52nd annual Great Day in the Country is expected to be held in Nov. 2026.
