Beetlejuice Beetlejuice (2024) finally hit theaters 36 years after the original, and while it has the same crazy energy as the first one, it doesn’t quite live up to the hype.
Michael Keaton is still great as Beetlejuice, and even though he’s in his 70s, he’s just as wild and unpredictable. It’s fun to watch him say his famous lines and do all his famous tricks, but after a while, it starts feeling a little repetitive. It seems like the movie is trying too hard to bring back the magic from 1988. The question is, was this magic accomplished again in BeetleJuice BeetleJuice (2024)?
One of the best things about the movie is how it looks. Tim Burton brings back his weird, colorful style, and the afterlife world is even crazier and more creative than before. The visuals are full of strange creatures, odd landscapes, and that classic, creepy-but-fun vibe Burton is known for.
His unique look really stands out, but even with all the cool designs, the story just doesn’t completely add up. There are way too many side plots, and the movie seemed a little rushed. This change makes the movie confusing and not as fun. The audience gets the feeling that the producers couldn’t decide what story to focus on, so they just threw a bunch of random ideas together.
The movie also leans a lot on nostalgia. You’ve got Danny Elfman’s music, lots of callbacks to the original movie, and even some of the same jokes. Winona Ryder is back as Lydia, which is fun, but some parts feel like they’re just there as a reminder of the first movie and nothing new has been added. After waiting 36 years to build and expand this movie, the audience expected more.
Overall, Beetlejuice Beetlejuice is fun but messy. It’s great for hardcore fans who want to relive the original, but for everyone else, it might feel like it’s trying too hard. While the movie offers some entertaining moments, it ultimately feels like a missed opportunity to deliver something fresh and memorable.
