Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice

Great for looks, overall plot lacking

2.5/4 Stars

Released on March 26th, Batman v Superman: Dawn Of Justice is the newest addition to the DC franchise. Overall, the movie is a nice experience, though it lacks slightly in the plot department.

It stars major heroes such as Batman (Ben Affleck), Superman (Henry Cavill), and features Lex Luthor and Wonder Woman, which makes this is one of the largest crossovers in all of the DC movies. The plot centers around the battle between the vigilante Batman and a young Superman, who, as seen in Man Of Steel, fended off Zod and protected Metropolis, but at a heavy toll to the city and its people.

You should see this movie if you are looking for a great visual experience. The movie has an abundance of scenes where the viewers can enjoy themselves by just watching the action unfold. One of the best scenes is when Superman and Zod fight in Metropolis; any scene containing fights between the main heroes is great. The slightly desaturated color scheme adds to the intensity of the movie, while the camera angles let the viewer in on all of the action.

However, the movie’s plot did lack slightly. Overall, it is more of a movie to watch for explosions and fighting than for a plot. As DC’s attempt to start a cross-movie connection, it is a good attempt for sure. Without trying to spoil any major scenes, a major problem is resolved because two characters had relatives who shared the same name. The plot also drags on the past a bit too much.

While some points of the plot were lackluster (to say the least), it was definitely a solid set-up for the new connected-movie universe DC has planned. Batman v Superman is a start to the larger goal of creating a justice league movie, similar style to Marvel’s Avengers. DC sets the groundwork by introducing characters such as Wonder Woman, and throwing mentions of other characters such as Cyborg, Flash and Aquaman.
