It all came down to this moment: an eleven-game season and months of preparation led to the end of the Lions’ season on Thursday, November 13. In a close game, the Oviedo Lions, a barely top-100 team, almost beat the number four-ranked Buchholz High School in an intense game.
“I can personally work on moving onto the next play. Once I learn to get over that, I should be good,” said senior Febres.
They scored zero points in quarter one, 14 points in quarters two and three, and 13 points in quarter four. Febres scored one, junior Jordan Donahoo scored one, senior Brock Joyce scored one, and junior Johnnie Cobbs scored one. Some statistics put up by players included 11 total tackles by senior Kyle Olson, 244 receiving yards by Febres, 144 receiving yards by Donahoo, and 471 passing yards by senior Sebastian Galeano.
In quarter two, the Lions scored two touchdowns. The first one was scored via a receiving pass in order to complete the touchdown. The second one was a five-yard pass for a touchdown. During quarter three, Oviedo was able to score another two touchdowns for a total of fourteen points. One was scored through a pass into a touchdown, and the second was a rushing touchdown. They scored yet another two touchdowns in the fourth and final quarter. One of these was a rushing touchdown, and the final touchdown for the Oviedo Lions was a receiving touchdown.
The two rushing touchdowns were split by Joyce and Cobbs, while the receiving touchdowns were split by Donahoo and Febres, with Donahoo scoring one and Febres scoring three.
“Personally. I need to get faster for sure… everything has to be at 100% and strive to be the best version of myself,” said Donahoo.
This was the final game of the Oviedo Lions’ season, falling 49-41 against Buchholz High. They ended the season with a record of 8-3, with their only losses being against Bishop Moore, Lake Brantley, and Buchholz high schools.
They ranked first in their district, holding a perfect 3-0 record. Their only losses were at away games, and the Lions won every home game they had. For a time, they had a seven-game win streak, unbroken until the final game of the season.
