At Oviedo High School, Taylor White has an impact in the classroom and on the sideline. The senior’s role as a cheer captain allows her to be a leader to the students at OHS.
White’s positive attitude and kindness make her an impactful person on the OHS campus. “She’s a very uplifting person and she caters to everyone else, even when it’s not in her best interest,” Brinley Turan, senior, said.
White has cheered since she was in elementary school, where she learned the basics that would help her in the future.
“I’ve cheered basically my whole life, I started when I was six,” White said.
This experience helped give White the distinction of making the varsity team as a freshman. Those years have given White good experiences and memories to carry into her senior year including the competitive cheer team’s trip to the state championships in White’s junior year.
“[My favorite memory] is maybe when we went to states… it’s kind of fun running around and being kids and just hanging out with all of our friends,” White said.
Now during their fourth year on the varsity cheer team, White was chosen to be one of the sideline captains by Alex Rondone, the cheerleading coach, thanks to her experience and character.
“[White] is a strong leader, she is a positive role model to the rest of her cheerleaders and she’s a great organizer,” Rondone said.
As a sideline captain, White is responsible for organizing and leading teammates as well as leading cheers on the sideline for football games.
White knows the importance of her role on the team and what that entails, “[It means] to be someone to lean on for newer members of the team or to be responsible and keep everybody on task,” White said.
White’s teammates also acknowledge the importance of White’s leadership of the team. “We definitely look up to her, and when any of us have questions she’s always there to answer them and motivate us,” Turan said.
White’s favorite part about the team is the friendships and memories made along the way. “I enjoyed making friends and seeing everybody grow throughout the year,” White said.
White’s enjoyment of the team helps create an infectiously positive attitude. This gives White’s teammates an enjoyable environment in which they can make lasting memories, as well as a place where White can end this chapter of her cheer career.
“I think that this will be my last year cheering, which is kind of sad but my body needs a break,” said White.
