The 76th Primetime Emmy Awards took place on September 15th, 2024. The award ceremony displayed some of the best pieces of American media that were produced from June 1st of last year to May 31st, 2024. Though the nominations were announced much earlier on July 17th, hosted by Dan and Euguene Levy, this year’s Emmy Awards were located in the Peacock Theater in California.
The leading nomination for the award was the first season of the drama series Shōgun. The show was produced by Rachel Kondo and Justin Marks, based on the 1975 novel of the same name written by James Clavell. The show is set in feudal Japan about samurais. The show won awards for their talented actors and actresses, winning awards for Outstanding Drama Series, Lead Actor in a Drama Series, Lead Actress in a Drama Series, and Supporting Actor in a Drama Series. The show received 25 nominations for their work and 18 trophies from both the Emmy award ceremony and Creative Art Emmy Awards.
Behind the leading winner, the third season of the show, The Bear, a dark comedy series produced by Christopher Storer, would finish second. The show is centered around dark, heavy topics, but the comedic feeling of the show makes it easier for the viewer to process. The show received 23 nominations in July, which is a record-breaking number of nominations for a comedy series in just one year alone, despite fans’ criticism of genre placement. The show won awards for Outstanding Castings for a Comedy Series, Outstanding Lead Actor in a Comedy Series, and Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series. The show totaled eleven awards.
Another highly nominated show this year was the first season of the series Baby Reindeer. This show racked up eleven nominations and ended up winning six Emmys, some of those awards being Outstanding Casting For A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie, Outstanding Directing For A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie, and Outstanding Picture Editing For A Limited Or Anthology Series Or Movie.
This year’s Emmy Awards wrapped up and celebrated a great year of media, and shone a spotlight on amazing actors and series for the people who enjoyed them. It was yet another wonderful year for the Primetime Awards.
