On Thursday, September 5th, the Oviedo Lions traveled to Wekiva Country Club to take on Lake Brantley High School. This will be the third game for the Lions’ golf team, following a big win against Lyman High School.
This was a tight contest for the Lions, as they struggled to earn their win. The Lions were led by top scorer, sophomore Xander Pendry, who scored a 35 in this game. Pendry has been one of the best golf players this season, as he is ranked number four in the district.
“It feels good to be ranked number four, but I’m striving to be number one,” said Pendry, “I worked hard to get to this point, and I focused on my chip and short game the most.”
The Lion’s second top scorers were sophomore Holt Rue, and junior Caleb Anderson, who both scored a 38 in the game. Rue shot a great game, as he bounced back from a struggling contest against Lyman High School last game. Anderson played a solid game as well and enjoyed playing against a good team, Lake Brantley.
“My driving was off, but my putting and chipping game is what saved me,” said junior Caleb Anderson. “I had a great time playing that day against a fierce team.”
Junior Tyler Adamczyk, who is ranked ninth in the district, was the fourth top scorer in the game. Adamczyk’s game started out rough, as he scored a double bogey in the first hole. However, he went on to come back from this troubling start and score a 39 in the game.
“Last game definitely started off pretty bad, but then I picked up my game towards the end of the round,” said Adamczyk, “Next game I got to keep my mind right, and just believe in myself.”
Junior Tre Dahm, and senior Tyler McGrath both scored a 41, to be the team’s fifth and sixth lead scorers. McGrath was happy with how this game went and is preparing for a successful season with the team this year.
“We played a really good game against a really good school, but I think we have a better friendship and communication than Lake Brantley,” said McGrath. “I think if we practice consistently and work on the small things, we’ll be a really good team.”
The season just started, but the Lions are preparing for a strong and exciting season. The final score for this game was 150-152, giving Oviedo High School their second win of the season. The Lions are still undefeated and want to keep this strong form of play in contact for the rest of the season. The future’s looking bright, as their strongest players are still young, and have so much more room for growth.
