The Spring season is soon to be in full swing, and for Florida it seems that Punxsutawney Phil was right after all. In other parts of the United States, and the world really, crazy snowstorms.
After being locked within the gates of winter for roughly 5 months, give or take as it felt colder for longer, the soft-hearted Floridians finally see the end of the cold-weathered tunnel. The preparations are in full swing for Spring to spread its wings and reveal itself to the world. Planning festivals, organizing cookouts, Christian holidays such as Holi, Ramadan, and many other things now that it is warmer outside to be able to properly and comfortably celebrate them, though, the cold is one of the best feelings one can feel. One can find themselves prepped for the festivities that are to come.
There are quite a number of tidings that Spring heralds in for us all. Sophomore Daniel Morse is one who definitely recognizes the pros of springtime. “My favorite thing about spring is the fact that it isn’t cold anymore. Due to the rise in temperature after winter, we can do more activities and celebrate more things outdoors more enjoyably.” Spring is coming a little late however, so perhaps Punxsutawney Phil was not as correct as we thought he was. However, the rise in temperature within the coming months will prepare Florida for the enjoyable holidays that are yet to come; one of which being the favorite of Morse: Easter.
“My favorite springtime holiday would definitely be Easter,” Morse said. “ Not only do we get to celebrate the birth of Christ, but it is a time to be with family and enjoy oneself. It means a lot to me and my family and we can enjoy one another’s company while giving reverence to our lord.” The preparation of Easter is what the entire Christian lent season means to most people, and it is a holiday that most look forward to during the respite post-christmas, or epiphany for some. Though with a degree less revered, the holiday of St. Patrick’s day is no small celebration, and Morse recognizes that. “I think it’s cool that there is a holiday specific to the Irish about an important Saint. People can learn something from it for sure.”
Beau Gardener was a sophomore at Oviedo, but ere winter break, departed to the western United States. Gardener feels similarly to Morse about the temperature change “I love that during spring, the temperature makes things more fun, and far nicer than winter”. The temperature changes in Utah are actually higher than they are here in Florida. Morse and Gardener also share their preferences for holidays. “I think the best holiday is Easter,” Gardener said. “I love how everyone can appreciate it, either due to the candy, or religious significance.” Easter can be applied to most people as a holiday of fun celebration. The same can be said for the holiday of St. Patrick’s day, which Gardener too appreciates. “I like St. Patrick’s day. It is a fun, Irish day for everyone to wear green, I am thankful there is no school that day too.” Spring in Utah is likely a bit of a cooler occasion, but yet a beautiful one in and of itself.
It is not just students that enjoy the luxuries of the springtimes yielding, but the faculty of the school too. English teacher Taylor Byron is another who enjoys the exit of winter and entrance of spring. “I like being able to be outside, and hang out with my dog comfortably,” Byron said. “Being away from the cold is just an amazing feeling after a long bit of it if that makes sense.” Like Morse and Gardener, Byron enjoys the relief after the long haul of cold temperatures, and enjoys Easter as much as the aforementioned interviewees but more so for the familial festivities the day heralds. “My family all goes out, and we have a massive easter egg hunt where grown adults go toe-to-toe with other grown adults, all competing for like ten bucks. We have a hunt for kids too, but the adults make it far more aggressive, and we are all very competitive. It’s a blast.” Easter is a time of celebration and fun. It is the trademark of spring for many all over the world.
Another trademark of spring is that of St. Patrick’s day, but unlike Morse and Gardener, Byron has a different opinion. “I don’t care for it all that much,” Byron said. “It’s not that special to me, except that there is a book fair that I am excited about, that is just about it.”
Another big glare that is now to be visible, is that of spring break. It is a wonderful respite of responsibility for the student and faculty bodies alike. It is a benefit that all shall experience after a week of examinations that are to challenge the minds of the students faced with their doomful reckoning. The time of freedom of responsibility with the work of school shall be upon us, and the anxiety of all that comes in the five-day period of tumultuous studies shall be vanquished. Rejoicing and gladness shall fill the streets that formerly were occupied with the sad voices of wails and woe.
Spring is the herald of new beginnings, and that which comes prior to the end of the school year. It is a chapter to be marked, and all will be able to look around the corner of spring break with eyes focused upon the summer break soon to be upon us.

I like the way the text captures the excitement of the upcoming spring season by talking about Easter and how it is an end to the long and cold winter. “…Christian holidays such as Holi, Ramadan…now that it is warmer outside…be able to properly and comfortably celebrate them.” Also, including other people’s thoughts on the upcoming spring season makes it seem like everyone is thankful it’s coming “I love that during spring, the temperature makes things more fun, and far nicer than winter”.

I loved this story! The writing was incredibly good, it made the story much more interesting. And now that we’re transitioning from spring to summer, I’m going to have to agree that I’m definitely going to miss spring. It’s the perfect balance between warm and cold.

I like the springtime and the weather during this time so it was interesting and exciting to read about this topic. I thought the article was put together very well and did a great job explaining what is going on everywhere during this time and some peoples thoughts on it.
