Oviedo High school girls varsity soccer team traveled to Kissimmme on Tuesday January 16 to take on Gateway High School. The team has been playing hot these past couple months, having gone 9-0 since November 27, and also posting 6 clean sheets during that run. This game against Gateway capped of a 10-0 run, as they beat them 9-0
Oviedo started off hot this game, scoring all 9 of their points all in the first half. Jada Narcisse and Payton Pittman both put up 2 goals for their team, and Laila Ayup was able to finish the game with 3 assists as well. The Oviedo Attacking game was in rhythm today, and the team could not be stopped by Gateway’s defense. This was the eleventh time this season that Oviedo was able to beat their opposing team by scoring 3 or more points than the opposing team.
Putting up 9 points in one half is incredibly impressive, but holding their opposing team to zero points is an outstanding task as well. During the game the defense was able to stay just as disciplined as they were in the first half, as the team remained scoreless allowing them to close out the game with another clean sheet. Oviedo’s defense has shown up in big games all season, as they have had a total of 8 clean sheets this season. Great goalkeeping, and solid defensive back play has helped boost this teams defense, and has made them one of the best teams in district.
The Lions record has increased to 11-0-3, and our the best team in the 6A D5 District. They are the only team in the district to go undefeated and have gone undefeated in district play. Every game the lions have won have been dominant wins, and they have shown fantastic play in each of these wins. Their are high expectations for this team, and are expected to go very far this season.
