Minga is the new student-oriented app used in Oviedo High School. It is the replacement for last year’s HERO Pass, and this time, it is far more technologically involved than the former. It helps with the place of student IDs, hall passes, tickets, and cards, among other things. Other than the United States, it is also a popular application in Canada. However, it is a mixed bag in the eyes of students, as some don’t think it’s that problematic, and others do.
Sophomore Joshua Segrest believes Minga is a big improvement to the HERO Passes from last year.
“I think Minga is good, because now you don’t have to waste time traveling the campus to find a security officer, making you more late than you would have been,” Segrest pointed out. “I think the best thing is that it is all organized, although I dislike having to create a hall pass with my phone.”
Sophomore Fyzen Sirkhan has similar views about the Minga system.
“I think it is better than what we originally had; it is more structured and ordered. It helps you stay on top of getting to class with warnings, so it really helps you be more on time,” Sirkhan said. “The hall passes are good too – being able to just sign out yourself, instead of making a whole thing by asking the teacher.”
Now, Minga is a central part of school involvement. It gets students into Homecoming, Prom, and most other school-related events as of now.
Junior Wyatt Geno has a negative view of Minga and its relations with school events.
“It’s kind of annoying that they are requiring us to get this app. I have heard that it is not very good privacy-related,” Geno said. “You should be able to use any ID to get into school, like driver’s licenses or actual physical IDs.”
However, Geno has ideas for improvement, and sees the potential for what Minga can do.
“It could be good for letting you know about events, like things that are going on around the school,” Geno said.
Overall, Minga is a conflicting topic for many students. But since it is a new program introduced to the school, time will tell if it is better, or in need of replacement.

I feel like this could be a good change, its differnt from the old hero passes and seems it can help alot of people be on time also I like how you interview multiple people for your story so it gives us a varity of opinions on this new system instead of hero passes.
