Halloween sales reach $3 billion record

Halloween is the only day where people can dress up in fun costumes and go trick-or-treating. However, with all of the excitement, comes expenses. This year has been the highest amount of money spent ever on this holiday.
A whopping $3.3 billion on Halloween costumes was spent, with an estimated total of $33.59 spent per person. Another $3 billion was spent on candy alone, with an average total of $30.40 per person. In addition, $3.2 billion was spent on decorations, with per- person spending at $32.10. According to the National Retail Federation, Americans spent an estimated total of $10.14 billion on Halloween, this year alone.
Most children go trick-or-treating on Halloween, therefore receiving candy. This year, sales were 60% higher than they were in 2019. According to CandyStore.com, the top nine most popular halloween candies include, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups, Skittles, M&M’s, Starburst, Hot Tamales, Sour Patch Kids, Hershey Kisses, Snickers, Tootsie Rolls, and Candy Corn.
In order to go trick-or-treating though, individuals will have to wear a costume. These costumes can be worn at parties or to get candy. The most popular costumes this year included witches, Harly Quinn, fairy, and Spider-Man. The total amount of money spent on these costumes this year went up about $1 million from last year.
Many horror movies like Halloween Kills (released October 15th) also contributed to the influx of money spent on this unique holiday. For this movie, the box office made a total of $86,348,210, which is a ton of money! To put this in perspective, Regal Cinemas’ ticket prices for children eleven and under are about $13, adults are $16.50, and seniors aged 60 or older are $13.00.
Another key element of this spooky holiday is decorating. The decorations that are currently in the highest demand include spiders, witches, bats, ghosts, tombstones, and more. These can be seen while driving by homes, visiting haunted houses, or when attending parties.
This year’s Halloween was definitely an expensive, but memorable one.
