On September 17th, 2021 Lil Nas X’s long awaited debut album “Montero” was released. Nas definitely had eyes on him leading up to the release with his fake pregnancy symbolizing the birth of his new music. After taking a good listen to the album my personal favorites are definitely “INDUSTRY BABY”, “THAT’S WHAT I WANT”, and “AM I DREAMING”.

“INDUSTRY BABY” was Lil Nas X’s second single from the album to be released after “MONTERO (call me by your name)” and it has definitely been a crowd pleaser reaching number 1 on Billboard’s top 100 R&B/ Hip Hop group. As a personal huge Jack Harlow fan I LOVED his feature. It’s definitely a hype song perfect for car rides, football games, and anything else really. 

“THAT’S WHAT I WANT” is such a cute song about how he wants to find love. The music video is Nas as a football player having a romantic relationship with his teammate which is adorable and proudly represents the LGBTQ communtity. 

“AM I DREAMING” features Miley Cyrus in a sad slow song that I was totally not expecting. It’s set after a breakup where they are asking their partner to not forget them. Overall I am super happy with the range of songs he gave us.

With features of Jack Harlow, Miley Cyrus, Megan Thee Stallion, etc. you get a lot of different emotions with the different kinds of songs, each is very unique and well crafted. While he might have a controversial reputation there’s no doubt this is a good album. Lizzo tweeted “never been a fan of Lil Nas but this new project he released has me literally *******, ********, and *******” which lets you know his new music is good. I think Lil Nas X did an amazing job with his first album and will have many more hits to come.
