Need a new quarantine activity? Try tetherball

WEB EXCLUSIVE

Being in quarantine there aren’t many places to go to play the sports we love to do. Basketball, softball, volleyball, bowling: a lot of these courts and fields are no longer accessible. So why not try something new for a change with your family: Building your own tetherball game.

This week my family and I brought out our tetherball equipment, but you can also make it easily at home. The game is very simple: all you need is a pole, a long piece of rope, a ball and some duct tape. The pole could be wood, steel or metal (whatever you have at your house or can be picked up at your local home improvement store). Drive this pole into the ground in your backyard. Tape one end of the rope to the top of the pole, then tape a volleyball or plastic ball to the other end. If the ball or rope comes off, just reapply more tape.

Since my family is only three people, we took turns and whoever won played the player that was waiting. If you are a family of four you can play as teams of two. The team that wraps the rope around the center of the pole the fastest by only hitting the ball wins.

It is a very fun with a family that is competitive, and willing to try new things. It’s a fun way to get outside, get some fresh air and have some fun.
