The Lions rolled into their matchup with University, riding the highs of their four-game winning streak and stretching it to five in a dominant 55-7 showing.
Oviedo’s offense entered the game with an impressive 47.1 points per game and the offense stayed dominant scoring 55 with 371 yards of total offense on 10.3 yards per play.
The Lions played a dominant two way game in the first half that had them ahead by a score of 42-0 at the break, and they rode that wave to secure the victory.
“[The defense] came out first, stopped them, then we scored,” said junior running back Johnnie Cobbs. “They played their tails off so we’ve got to give [credit] to them mostly,”
The defense continued their dominant stretch, having allowed only 46 total over the past 4 weeks, and they balled out holding the University offense to only 243 yards while forcing 4 turnovers. The Lions didn’t allow the Titans to score until the very end of the 4th quarter, ending the dreams of the third shutout of the season.
“[The] defense played really sound football, really forcing turnovers, and forcing them into bad positions like third and long,” said senior linebacker Kyle Olson.
The defense’s domination set the Lions’ offense up in a great position, and the offense took advantage, dominating the trenches, which allowed the offense to consistently march down the field. The Lions’ offensive line took over, providing the gaps for five Oviedo ball carriers to average seven and a half yards per carry, which set up one of the Lions’ most efficient passing games of the season.
“Our offense is executing at the point of attack, really establishing a ground game and passing second,” said Olson.

The Lions hope to take the momentum of their latest win in their five-game win streak into the final district game of the season against Evans, where the district champion will be determined. A win would send the class of 2026 off as four-time district champions and set the precedent for continued excellence.
“We’ve won the [district] the past three years, so it would be disrespectful of those teams to not keep it up,” said Olson.
A win would also secure a playoff spot for a Lions team that has high hopes for postseason play this season.
“A win against Evans is very important because if we win, we automatically go to the playoffs,” said junior lineman Austin Wahl.
The Lions will have to put up a good performance to beat the Trojans, who sit atop the District 4 standings tied with the Lions’ 2-0 record.
