Conan Gray released his new album titled “Wishbone” on August 15. His fanbase has been patiently waiting for this new release since his album “Found Heaven” in 2024. He spent 2 years silently working on this project while being on tour for “Found Heaven,” and with “Found Heaven” only being released a year prior.
“Wishbone” shows significant progress with his music style compared to previous releases, even though Gray didn’t initially plan to release it. Others have embraced the record, too, with this being his first project that entered top three of Billboard 200 chart, debuting at #3. Gray spent countless hours creating this album. It was thoroughly thought out for a long period of time.
In the new album, he decided to experiment with more diverse emotions instead of solely focusing on gloomy and despairing music. This album highlights Gray’s vulnerability and honesty within his music. While the album mainly focuses on personal experiences, it also touches on themes that are relatable universally.
Personally, the lyrics bring me a sense of longing and nostalgia. While this is a more diverse set of songs than albums he’s released before, there are still a couple that reminded me of previous releases and gave a lasting impression that will be memorable for quite some time. He appears to be much more confident with this release and the impressive lyricism highlights his growth as a songwriter.
“Wishbone” has already given Gray many new fans and is continuing to do so. Though he started off only as a small content creator on YouTube, he is now a rising pop star that has captured the voice of a generation. He uses his platform to ‘speak up’ and be an incredibly influential male indie pop artist that people can look up to. This album will stay with his fans for a very long time. With “Wishbone,” Gray solidifies his career as a significant artist in contemporary indie pop music, and fans are excited for what’s next.
