Last night was a decisive step forward in this Presidential election cycle. Both frontrunners, Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, took huge steps forward to securing the nominations from their respective sides. Hillary Clinton swept last night, winning all five contests and increasing her delegate lead to over 2/3 of the needed delegates to become the Democratic nominee. As for the Republicans, their race become much more refined after last night. Donald Trump destroyed Marco Rubio in his home state here in Florida, winning every county but the one Rubio is from, and ended up beating him by a double digit percentage amount. This prompted Rubio to – as expected – drop out of the race, an unfortunate occurrence for such a bright, young star in the GOP who fell victim to bad timing. Donald won four out of the five contests in total, only loosing to John Kasich in Kasich’s home sate where he is currently the governor of, Ohio. Nonetheless, Trump looks dominate, and barring a miracle contested convention will become the Republican nominee. The race is down to three on the GOP side, which has been a crazy road to get to here from the seventeen original candidates running. Trump, Cruz, and Kasich are the last three men standing, and all three will most likely battle it out until the end. Overall, both Trump and Clinton seem to be inevitable at this point, and from judging the online reaction to this, the young people of our country don’t seem so pleased with having to pick between those two. Going forward, this race is bound to continue to throw curveballs and stay as intriguing as it has been, but it seems very clear now where this race will end – with a battle between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton to be our next President.
