Venom 2 was the equivalent to a joyride. It becomes apparent quickly in the movie that the team working behind it didn’t care much about anything besides having fun with the characters they had. We get to see Eddy Brock and Venom have their rough patches and another familiar symbiote from the Spider-Man franchise, Carnage. There were great moments and not so great moments throughout the film, and with the ultimate battle at the end of the movie, it felt like the film came to a contained ending.

The thing is, for anyone who stayed for the end credits scene knows the end of this story was anything but contained. Just what happens may you ask? Well, for starters, Venom became officially a part of the MCU storyline.

The scene starts with Eddie Brock and Venom watching a hispanic soap opera in a shabby hotel room. Due to the subject matter of the soap opera, they start talking about secrets, and right before Venom shows Eddie Brock a flash of all known knowledge of symbiotes, a flash of light and sudden change of setting occurs. Thrusted violently into a new environment, they look at the tv which is playing the news coverage of Peter Parker as Spider-Man.

This scene sets up so many expectations for the MCU: first and most notable, the introduction of new characters to MCU. Venom is a Sony property, but the MCU is Disney, so it opens up a whole new realm of possibilities for characters to be introduced. This is even more prevalent with films getting ready to hit the theaters like Mobius. Not only are there new possibilities for more obscure or unique characters seeing the MCU, there’s also the whole event of why Venom was shifted to the MCU.

Speculation around the new upcoming Spider-Man movie is that a rift in the MCU is caused in this movie, but according to chronological events, it seems nearly impossible that it was Dr. Strange’s spell showcased in the trailer that brought them to the MCU but instead Loki. The Disney+ series ends off with a strong cliffhanger, where the “Sacred Timeline” is dissolved, causing the multiverse. The common theory is that this has caused Venom to appear in the MCU.

There is one problem with this theory, and that’s with some considerably complex concepts. The multiverse created in Loki is based on the many worlds quantum theory, where a separate universe is created at every split decision for each equal response. Since the separating relates directly to time, where each split is in relation through the period of time an alternating path is created, it seems unlikely that Venom is in the MCU through Loki. However, it is known that Doctor Strange has the capability of manipulating not only space, but time. It is showcased in every film he’s in, as well as the What If… series and even more relevant to the topic, the Spider-Man trailer. He quite literally takes Doc Oc from not just a separate timeline but also from the past making it just as likely that he has the capability to put someone in the past as well.

With a basic sum up, this post-end credits scene has opened up so many possibilities for the MCU, it’d be an understatement to say the future is unpredictable. With the likelihood of new characters getting moved around through different films and interacting uniquely to said films. Not only this but time travel will is also likely to become a much more prevalent theme in the MCU, with not only the Loki multiverse, but also the tear in said multiverse caused by Doctor Strange.
