Many people view quarantine as a bad thing, stuck inside, not being able to see your friends. However, being stuck inside is not all that bad: you can find new hobbies, decorate or play new sports.
Try making your own slime
This used to be very popular, and for good reason: making slime is a fun and easy thing to do when you are bored and just want something to play with.
You will need 2 to 3 teaspoons of saline solution (like contact solution), a tablespoon of baking soda, an 8-ounce bottle of Elmer’s glue and food coloring if you want the slime to be a pretty color. I also add lotion to make it smell good.
Pour your glue in a bowl and add your food coloring, if you have any. If you do not have contact solution, you can also use laundry detergent as a saline solution instead. Then mix, and add in your lotion, or any other little things you want to add to make your slime better, like glitter. Then knead it until it’s smooth and gooey, with a stretchable texture.
This may seem like a boring craft, but you can use the slime as a stress reliever to help you get past all the work you have to do for your classes.
Create a cardboard recreation of your favorite movie stars
Let’s be honest, who doesn’t want to spend their quarantine hanging out with Billie Eilish or Spongebob? Whether it’s a favorite cartoon character or celebrity, you can recreate them as cardboard cutouts to hang with while social distancing. You will need printer paper, scissors or boxcutter, tape, and cardboard.
First, go to the website “blockposter.com” and insert your picture of the person you want to cutout. Then set your measurements for how high, and wide you want your cutout to be. The printer will divide the photo into printer-page sizes for you.
Then, when it prints, cut it out along all the lines and tape their body together. If you have cardboard, line your cutout to the cardboard and glue each page to the cardboard.
Now, it’s time to cut it out. It’s easier to use a boxcutter than scissors if you have one. When you’re finished, you’ll have a perfect recreation of your favorite characters or celebrities to keep you company in quarantine. Make sure you invite them to your next Zoom call!
Create your own Olympic tournament
The perfect thing to do in quarantine is get outside and exercise, and what better way than creating your own summer Olympics? You will need whatever sports equipment you have on hand, but don’t be afraid to be creative. If you don’t have a soccer ball, a kickball will work in a pinch. You may also want to get a poster board to keep track of the player’s points. If you have yogurt on hand, you can use the lids and create medals with a little bit of ribbon and some tape. Aluminum foil or construction paper cut into circles will also work.
Create your line-up of events first. Volleyball, soccer, basketball, track, swimming: these are all events you can add to your docket. Or, if you’re feeling adventurous, add your own sports, like balloon ball. In balloon ball, players compete to see who can keep a balloon floating the longest in the air without it touching the ground. It’s your competition, so you make the rules!
Don’t forget to have an awards ceremony after each match and hand out your medals. Remember, it’s customary to play the national anthem when a country wins, so have every player pick a song to represent their “player anthem” to be played when they are crowned winners.
